Linlithgow
Thornton is just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Linlithgow and its selection of good pubs, shops and restaurants.

To learn about the town's historic past hire the 90-minute audio tape tour from the tourist information centre or visit The Linlithgow Story (museum and garden).

Overlooking the loch, Linlithgow Palace has been a residence of Scottish kings since the 13th century, and is now open to the public through Historic Scotland. Birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.

Union Canal Union Canal
Connecting Edinburgh and Falkirk, the recently re-opened Union Canal passes through Linlithgow close to our house.
You can easily walk along the canal tow path (and get a ride back on the train if you wish).
You could also take the train to the unique Falkirk Millennium Wheel which opened in 2002 linking the Union Canal to the Forth & Clyde Canal for onward travel to Glasgow.
Or why not take a barge trip? The Linlithgow Canal Centre has a museum and tearoom, plus boat trips during the tourist season. There's also the Edinburgh Canal Centre (12 miles away).
